"History of the Russian State in Awards and Badges" by Nicolai Gladkov.

This book is in 2 volumes :

Volume 1 is dedicated to Imperial Russia. (I don't have this book).
Volume 2 is dedicated to Soviet Union (I have it).

The Volume 1 has been published in 2004, in Russian. Laminated hard cover, 623 pages.
It is a quick course in history of Imperial Russia as reflected in decorations and medals. Contains encyclopedic amount of historic material, illustrated by black and white drawings.

It is a second quick course in history of Soviet Union as reflected in decorations and medals. Contains encyclopaedic amount of historic material, illustrated by color and black and white drawings.
4 periods are covered :
* 1917-1920
* 1920-1941
* 1941-1945
* 1945-1990

I bought it 438 RRoubles (14 euros - a very good price :) ) in St Petersburg.

I see that it is of very poor print quality. Is there new information in the book, or is there coverage of rare titles, state prizes etc.?

About the printing quality; it is neither better not worst than most of the Russian made catalogs or books. This book is not printed on a glossy paper, and all the illustrations are drawings... In fact, I don't find it so bad... Maybe my scans don't give him credit...

About the content : it is in Russian; I have not yet gone through all the contents and chapters. But, as far as I have understood and seen, it seems to cover Republican orders in a quite extensive manner. It is lighter about the State prizes.
