It's been a long time since anything new was added to this sub-forum. Here's a 1938 Georgian deputy's badge with photo ID folder. As I understand it, nearly all of the 1938 deputies were executed in The Terror. That probably accounts for the missing photo.

Does anyone know for sure what the small pass is? I think I know, but I'm not sure.

Here's the interior of the ID folder, the front of the small pass and the reverse of the badge. No mint mark and the numbers look individually stamped. Tbilisi was a regional center with many small shops producing awards.

The pass slides underneath the inside right side of the folder.

And here are the backs of the ID folder and pass.

Georgian TsIK and Supreme Soviet

Dear moderator, If there is a post already for Georgian Deputies, please move but:

Before flag pins the Georgians were cool dudes. IF you follow Deputy Badges closely, in Likhihitsky he showed badges that were not flag pins (for Georgia). IF you read the text you would discover they were in Gold!

(There are two of these coming, differing based on flat versus mirror/relief reverse so "do not change your dial" as they say.)

It is believed that the badge(s) attached to this posting (and the next) is/are before flag pins. (Same for next one.) That is, both badges should date from 1921 - 1924 or so (but before approxmately 1925).

I should somewhere give my disertation on not flag pin deputy badges and hwo flags came in after 1922, and maybe as late as 1924. For Komintern the early badges have been shown as "not flags."

So here (and the next) are two versions of "IN GOLD" badges, alleged by Likhihitsky to be Deputy Badges, but not flag pins. These badges are in gold and not marked. (Early on, marking was a Bourgeoisie thing to do! Afterall, what is gold but Bourgie? So the Prolies did not mark at the start)

I plan to follow with more Georgian badges under this string. So if you have some with documents, post here PLEASE.

Second GOLD TsIK badge for Georgia

Attached are the adverse/reverse for a second TsIK badge for Georgia. The difference is this badge has mirror/relief reverse. I have not done the acid test so that I can report on gold content. That will have to follow in a subsequent post next week or later. But here is a second GOLD TsIK (supposedly, based on Likhihitsky).

You will note that the badge had the two halten mutter/back plate combos as did the early Order of the Red Banner badges. Please rememeber we are talking about material that likely came out of the Tfilis mint. (There was a mint unit in Tfilis which would convert later as would the name of the city - to Tbilisi.) So besides Moscow and St. Petersburg/Petrograd, an actual Mint was a rarety in the field. But one did exist here it would seem. (I have badges marked "Mint Unit.")

Early TsIK badge (before 1927)

The picture attached is of a Central Executive Committee badge that precedes Mekhonoshin 27.1.1. Badge 27.1.1 in his book is not marked. The attached is marked 84 with Kokoshnik. The greek letter for particular mint unit is difficult to read, and could be "a" (Moscow) or "d" Leningrad) but does not appear to be an "O" (Tiflis/Tbilisi). There are no rays under the enamel. Mekhonoshin has a document for 5th convocation in 1929 and cites that as going with 27.1.1. So this badge would most likely be from 1925 or 1927, with the probability leaning toward 1925. If that is the case and the previous two badges are TsIK badges then they date from 1922 and 1924 and the flag pins are instituted in 1924 or 1925. Note: the picture is fuzzy because the badge has a curve to its surface.

Aharim,

My jaw just hit the table! You are the 2nd collector I know to have these gold badges. There seems to be much discussion about these - I would imagine Mekhonoshin did not include them in his book because he was not sure what they were. A fellow collector from Georgia swears that they are TsIK badges. Accorgind to him, they were all custom made, so there are at least several variations.

More on the Gold badges

You can tell the difference from the front between the two. First has a stump on the top of the staff, second has a ball on top. The badge in Likhitsky has a stump so would appear to be like the first badge shown above. While I have a number of badges from the former Likhitsky collection, I think that this might not be from his collection, but can't be sure because his pictures are "cut outs."

Deputy Badges

This was a set that went through my hands many years ago...just found photos of it; thought I'd post here for all to see. Was a great set; sorry the last shot is so blurry!

Re: Georgian set

Yes it was/is.

Not to hijack you thread Doug, but I have a Georgian document from 1934 that the seller said was MVD and since their isn't a word of Russian in the entier thing, I can't say for sure what it is; however, since it has about 6 pages inside and lots of dates and basic similarities to a military service record or pensioner's ID, I'm tending toward something of that nature.

Anybody ever see one like this? Doug, do you read Georgian?:D
