This nice looking Flag is at the moment on offer. The seller discribes it as a Flag from a Patrol Boat.

Eddie.

And here is the markings printed on the edge.

I don´t believe it. There were no navy flags (at least known) with the gerb in them. Even the highest ranks´flags had only the H&S and the red star, but none of them had the gerb.
Hope this is correct,

Esteban

This Flag is a Commander-in Chief of the Navy Flag.

The Flag of Minister of Defence of the USSR is white with the arms of the USSR in the center imposed on two dark blue horizontal stripes.

The Flag of the commander-in-chief of the Navy of the USSR (1953-1992)was the same, but just one dark blue stripe on the bottom edge of the Flag.
In 1950-1953, before abolition of the post, this flag belonged to Minister of
the Navy of the USSR.

I have the first flag, the one attributed to the CIC-Navy. When I bought it, it was supposed to be from a Black Sea fleet naval vessel flag locker, flown only to honor the CIC-Black Sea Fleet during tours and inspections. My source is good, not perfect, but this is fairly consistent with what Taz wrote.

Thanks for the great information. On point, as usual.

Nice find Chuck, They seem to be quite rare.

I am not sure about rarity though. It should be very rare. But there was a guy on ebay last year offering lots of all these flags. I found it odd he had as many Minister flags as 1-star admiral flags.

Original?

Shawn,
Do you think they were Original?
Theoreticaly speaking, every naval vessel should have had one of these stowed away somewhere for tours and inspections as Chuck said. But to have as many Minister flags as 1-star admiral flags? I,m not so sure.

They seem to be original material and some have dates. The ones I have seen look good.

Your explanation says a lot. I was not thinking of the fact that they would be on every ship and site ready for a visit. In other words they are all of the same rarity as they are basically made and distributed in sets. Makes sense to me.

I have never heard of faked flags like that.

Naval Flags

These flags are available in uge numbers in moscow and St.Pete. It seems to be that it was a case of massive overproduction! I have a few i the closet that the Russians used as packing material for sending expensive stuff : )
