I believe that this is a original Sevastopol Medal and Document, but many fakes are available for sale so, i would appreciate the forum members opinion on this item.

I'm a total novice and bought this 'Stalingrad' while on holiday in Yalta. I'd like to buy some more similar but am now aware that fakes abound. Is this a fake and, if so, why? Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

It's fake. Compare here and note that yours has too sharp detailing compared to an original. Especially contrast the skinny and sharp letters on your reverse and the complete lack of wear.

Likewise, it looks like lead solder on the top.

The lead solder is usually (but not always) a good sign of a fake.

As it is illegal to remove real Soviet awards from Yalta (under Ukrainian or Russian law) it is likely everything purchased there and successfully exported is fake.

It wasn't that bad with the Ukrainian Law - at least few years back. But right now Yalta is no longer Ukraine.
