Thanks Travel-north!

Here some more pictures of the Polar. Is it possible this variation is thicker?

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals

Looks like a normal voenkomat medal to me. Quite rare!

I don't know anything about early and late voenkomat versions and the topic sounds interesting, could you provide me more info?
Is it normal that a voenkomat medal has the serifs of the consecutive K and Y at different height like the older variations? To understand what I mean, look at this detail in the other 2 Voenkomats and in the Caucasus (which is a soldered ring type) and you'll notice that the "KY" on the polar is similar to the one on the caucasus medal.

It certainly isn't as late to be one of Ms. Umalatova's.

I can answer to myself: "yes, it is" as I could verify on one Polar Defence of mine, here. :o

Actually, after seeing the bigger pictures I believe it is a regular voenkomat. The latest version has similar color to 1988 anniversary medal. It does not have typical yellow gold coating.

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals

I think I've seen one of these before. Is it 0.2-0.3 millimetres smaller in diameter than usual?

This I dunno. This time I preferred to ask for advice before buying the medal :D

These pictures is the only thing I could get from the seller. Having seen them, I have no serious intention to buy this medal, therefore I'd prefer not to bother him asking further questions.

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals

I believe I have seen these before. Around 0.2-0.3 mm undersized and often caked in fake jet black patina. They don't obviously seem cast so they must be trying new production techniques.

I'd only buy an Odessa from a highly trusted source. Paying the "extra" to ensure it is real is better than getting one half price and never being satisfied.
