The Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic (Кыргыз Советтик Социалисттик Республикасы) was elevated from the position of Kirghiz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Кыргыз Автономиялуу Советтик Социалисттик Республикасы) of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic to a Republic of the Union Of Soviet Socialist Republics (Советтик Социалисттик Республикалар Союзу) on 5th December 1936. The Kirghiz SSR was not invaded during the Great Patriotic War but did make contributions to manpower and materiel supply.
The Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic was renamed the Republic Of Kyrgyzstan (Кыргызстан Республикасы) on 15th December 1990 and declared independence on 31st August 1991 which was granted on 25th December 1991. The constitution of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic remained in place until 5th May 1993.
