Communist Party Archives?

Is there any Communist Party Archives and is it possible to research them?

If someone knows more, I would like to learn about this.

They definately do exist. I don't know if they are open to the public.
However, there may be a problem. While working in a local division of the National Archives I had a possibility "touch" the archives of the LOCAL commitee of the communist pary of Poland. They were not yet put to order - if someone wanted to view some of this files, it ussualy took up to one hour to find most of the common files, and after that they had their pages numbered and folded together.
In effect the person who wanted to view the files had to wait quite a long time.
In addition - If You want to get acces to archives of the specific comitee, You have to visit the archives in a certain city.
I am afraid it may be the same with soviet communist party archives...

I am interested in this as I bought a group for which the recipient was a member of the CP and I thought I could learn more about him...possibly on the civilian side of his life. Would be a nice complement to military research.
