Hi,

I have a propaganda poster from the Ukraine. I believe it basically translates to the peasant saying he would be happy to work as a foreign laborer in Germany. The poster is in great shape other than having been folded at one time. I looked in the margins with a magnifying glass and saw the microscopic black dots. Someone told me this was a good sign as it reflects the printing techniques of the time. The poster is also composed of two separate sheets. They come together in the middle. The poster also does not glow under the black light. I do not really know much regarding these posters, so any insights into this one's authenticity will be greatly appreciated.

The poster allegedly belonged to this German officer at one time. I have written the previous owner, in the Ukraine, a letter.

Thanks,
Eddie

It says "Friend, I will help. I'm going to Germany to work!"

The poster does not glow under a black light. The stamps and the photo do not glow either. I am not sure if that really means much though.

Re: Propaganda poster from the Ukraine

That's a Nazi propaganda poster instead of a Soviet propaganda poster obviously, correct?
I like it though.
The second item looks more like period artwork; like a charcoal drawing or something.
Of course my knowledge of art is limited to one class in college about 8 bazillion years ago.

I scanned the back of my poster with my black light. I found some quite interesting markings. Have any of you ever seen anything like this?

Would a faker go to this kind of trouble?

Thanks,
Eddie

Re: Propaganda poster from the Ukraine

Those marks are reversed SS runes and swastikas... "Watermarks"(like those used on banknotes) that denote official print, perhaps?

Re: Propaganda poster from the Ukraine

I got a lot of reflection in my pictures. In hopes of doing the poster a little justice, I have added this picture. I laid a sheet of computer paper beneath the markings to portray the new vs. old.

Thanks,
Eddie

Yea, Esteban has it. SS markings as watermarks perhaps.

Re: Propaganda poster from the Ukraine

I can see the watermarks with my naked eye when I hold the poster up to the natural day light. Someone once told me something about "ghost images" left over from the previous run of the printing press where the plates are recycled or reused. I am not sure if that may be what this is. Perhaps someone could elaborate on this phenomenon.

Thanks,
Eddie
