I don't focus any irritation at anyone, I'm just fond of historical short-circuits...

Re: The History Of Suspension?

A vast number of DDR awards also had those rectangular bars somewhat uncomfortably attached as suspension devices. I really don't enjoy handling awards with these strange bars on them and I have seen the uncomfortable fit snap quite a few rings off.

But that is off-topic, as it is in standard Soviet style.
I remember of a badge with a non-pentagonal suspension,, and the same for the 1st Year opening commorative badge...

True, but there is more interesting variability in the DDR than in many places.

Despite what we are told to believe about the DDR, there is a very different "chemistry" at work there. I find it very interesting.

As far as I know, "pentagonal" means "five-sided". DPRK awards seem to be fitting this definition...

GDR had shizophrenic relations with the soviet brothers in many fields: copying or not copying? Some awards were "twins" , some others were "socialist prussian-style"... Much originality in the first years of the regime and in the fifties, more conventionnal under the Honcker rule... about 50-60% of awards were with a pentagonal device. But I'm defintively off-topic.

I had a glance in the small Durov of 1988, and nothing about the genesis of the russian pentagonal ribbon. I think we need some help from Russian readers.

No, this is a normal hanging suspension, not stuck onto a rigid Soviet-style suspender. You do get some quirky solid suspensions in Korea, but not Soviet-style.

There's a (well, several) difference(s) here.
