MPLA Recognises Cuban contribution to independence
of Angola

LUANDA, December 8th 2011.
The Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) today awarded the Medal December 10th, the highest distinction awarded by the party,to the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro .

This important recognition is part of the decision of the ruling political party of decorating personalities and organizations who contributed extensively to the independence struggle of the Angolan people and the development of the MPLA.

Other Cuban personalities received the Gold Medal September 17th, including a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Jorge Valdes Risquet and also Brigadier General Rafael Moracén Limonta
and the president of the Cuba-Africa Friendship, Rodolfo Puente Ferro.

The Medal Sepember 17th commemorates Agostinho Neto birth date in 1922 , Angola's first president.

These awards are made under the First International Symposium on History of the MPLA, which concluded today in Luanda, after three days of sessions. The organisation celebrates 55 years of existence on the 10th of this month.
