I received the service record card today (well, two actually).

Biryukov was born on 25 June 1922. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 28 December 1941, Senior Lieutenant on 6 November 1942, Captain on 30 January 1945 and Major on 28 October 1950.

It mentions that he had attended 10 classes of middle school in 1939, passed artillery courses at an infantry school in 1941, a commanders training course (KUKS) in 1946 and another officers training course (OOKUOS) in 1952.

He was transferred to the reserve as a Major in June 1956.

Awesome! Some of my guesses were right - the officer training classes. But I didn't expect he was 28 when promoted to major. Still, very cool.:thumbsup
