Firing on direct lay he destroyed 2 enemy crossings, 30 trucks, and 3 tanks. The enemy did not seize the eastern bank of the Don River. On July 6, 1942 he destroyed an enemy mortar battery. Home of record: [trans: entry intentionally obscured] Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment During offensive fighting near Oskino(?) and Rasseshko(?) he led his battalion in an excellent manner despite difficulties and he spent the entire time among the infantry units in open positions destroying enemy firing positions. During fighting 14.1.43 – 21.1.43 he personally positioned himself along the lead edge of lines and with his guns destroyed 27 firing positions(?) and fifteen bunkers and suppressed seven artillery batteries and five mortar batteries. His personal example motivated the battalion’s personnel to heroic feats. His battalion’s firing destroyed as many as 700 enemy personnel. Home of record: [trans: entry intentionally obscured] Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment The regiment commanded by Comrade Yakovlev displayed high levels of combat qualities, organization, and offensive spirit in offensive fighting from 31.8 through 13.9.43. Excellently integrated with the infantry, he remained beside it and the regiment pursued the retreating enemy without falling behind. While retreating across the Seim reiver near Semenovo and Kryzh, an enemy (?) caused the conditions for the artillery to break away from the infantry, yet Comrade Yakovlev’s initiative in organizing the deployment of supply units on boats and rafts across the Seim and he led the crossing to eliminate this threat. During the offensive while accompanying the infantry with fire and mounted movement, the regiment caused significant losses to enemy personnel and equipment. More than 300 enemy soldiers and officers were killed, 250 enemy soldiers and officers were dispersed and partially destroyed, in addition three cannons, sixteen heavy machineguns, eight loaded cards, two observation posts were destroyed, eight artillery batteries were suppressed, one tank destroyed and nine tanks dispersed. During the entire offensive Comrade Yakovlev situated himself in the most essential sectors and personnel directed the fire supporting the infantry. Comrade Yakovlev is deserving of the Order of Kutuzov III Class.
