Re: Davtjan, Mamikon Vartanovich, Flight Commander, 184th Separate Aviation Regiment

This August 1944 awarded Order Of The Patriotic War 2nd Class #206640 was his first award - it will have been on his chest when he was downed by enemy fire. This gives it a rather nice twist even if research is currently unavailable for it.

It doesn't look anything like all those smashed awards that are so often labelled as "combat worn". I'm sure his aeroplane had a few scratches and holes when he was finished with it though.

Red Banner #190506. Awarded 1st March 1945.

It looks as though Davtjan has put some sort of screw or fastener on the back of the Red Banner at some point - most probably to stop it waving around whilst flying and possibly during the war. It seems that he also removed whatever was there later on (probably after he stopped flying).
