Soviet RKKA General or Bulgarian - or neither?
I asked the seller about this belt buckle and mentioned that all of the GPW and earlier officer belts I saw have a similar studded belt, but the buckles were a star with "rays" inside the arms and a central circle with a prominent H&S and this is all a cut-out design from solid brass. I actually have one of these old buckles (alas, no belt with it) so I asked him where this one was from.
The seller says: "...this belt USSR Russia General" and the listing says RKKA. Anyway, I still don't recall seeing these in the Soviet army, but uniforms are a relatively new interest to me (and typically just a specific set of organizations' uniforms from certain periods). Anyone know anything about this? Since the seller says he's in Moscow, I don't see how he can sell this or many of the other items he has listed legally...if they are authentic.:( Phillip

Re: Soviet RKKA General or Bulgarian - or neither?
This looks like a very, very worn general buckle. I can still see the the heavily faded hammer and sickle in the first pic.

Re: Soviet RKKA General or Bulgarian - or neither?
Soviet gereral, earlier version - I don't remember exactly, but they went out of use either in 1969 or in 80's, when they changed the h&S to a full state seal on the buckle. However, it seems that many of the generals who got their general's rank before that change continued to wear ones like this even in 90's.
Belts like Yours were introduced probably in 1955, altogh I am not sure what the generals wore between 1943 and 1955. Before 1943 they wore the same type of belt as the officers (m35). |
