Short, concrete description of his combat feat or merits:

Comrade Sazanov A.Z was an active participant of the Great Patriotic War. He took part in battles in the 2nd Ukrainian front in the 3rd Rifle Regiment, 5th Division on the front line.

On October 26, 1943 he was seriously wounded in the head. He suffers the effects of brain damage by way of co-ordination and movement disorders after being blinded by shrapnel to the skull. The wound is verified by a certificate of illness No 1163 issued by evacuation hospital 494, Omsk on March 7, 1944 .

He is unfit for military service with the exception from registration. Since 1944, he is a disabled World War II veteran, category 2. He receives a social security pension. He does not work for health reasons. In everyday life he acts with dignity.

The presentation of the award has been coordinated with local and party authorities.

Conclusion: Worthy of the award the “Order of the Red Star.”

Good job Tom! The record card was signed by the military commissar of the city of Arzamas (250 miles east of Moscow). His name is indeed Ustimenko.

Brain damage is probably a greater wound to the person and those surrounding than the very tangible loss of limb.

Be careful with those translators, at no time does the citation say "World War II".

The things that makes this award for me is his signature on his Record Card.

24 years after the event, he must still be struggling every day.
