Professional Technical School cap

Hi every one.

I resonly bought a new cap into my collection.
It is a rather hard to find cap, I had a hard time finding one of.

First i shale give the information i have on it.
It comes straight of undertheredstar.com.

Quote:
Professional Technical School
Student
1990s

A variant of the above cap, this 1992 dated cap was clearly intended for wear by students at the same Professional Technical Schools. However, the meaning of the seldom seen color combination of gray and medium blue is unknown to me. It "may" represent an attempt to develop a color combination unique to these schools - since the all-blue caps apparently worn by most PTU students were also used by other organizations with different insignia. But this is merely conjecture on my part at this time. Other than the attractive color scheme of a gray gabardine top and band with "cornflower" blue piping, the cap is unremarkable. It has the standard PTU/PTO badge, late black plastic chinstrap held by Army-style buttons, and a small black plastic visor. Scarce
And a picture of his cap.

Re: Professional Technical School cap

now here it goes for my specimen of this very cap.

as you all can see in the pictures mine had the wrong badge.
i have changed this to the correct one already.:thumbsup

altough my cap has the overall look of the one above, mine has some different things i had never seen before.

1.the buttons are of a kind made out of plastic with a brass ring.
they seem to match the color of the cap, and look to have always been there.

2.the inside is also different from other soviet caps.
the diamond is way different and makes me think it is definitely post soviet.
the sweatband it of a felt material i have never seen before in use for this purpose.
the band is stamped with the inventory tag like soviet caps always had.

any thoughts on this cap or more new information is very welcome !!
many thanks ser-g

Re: Professional Technical School cap

Perhaps the techical schools had different buttons?
I cant imagine that all across the Soviet Union everything would remain the same and uniformed, of course I am probably wrong to say that.
But it does look very nice, I am unsure of the sweat diamond though...

If it´s late production there should be no objections. But yes, it´s rather disturbing to see this diamond. It´s the first time I see such sloppily mounted one, assuming this cap is nost post-soviet manufacture.

Re: Professional Technical School cap

It is pretty sloppy, it doesnt really sit too well with me.
but who knows!
Maybe somebody who knows a little bit more about this type of hat will shed some light on it. :)

what do you both mean with the sloppily mounted diamond ?
is is the rather rough sewing ?

i have a cap with a similar diamond in design.
it is a 1988 dated mvd parade cap.
it has the same O= sign on it, and is typical op late soviet production.

the label on this very cap (gray ptu) is worn, some writhing has worn.
and combined with the material of sweat band and diamond i think it is most likely very late or post soviet.

the writing in the diamond is not wrong, but the shape and sewing of the diamond looks like it was made in a hurry.

Re: Professional Technical School cap

i see and understand your point.

i think your right that it is not up to standard of soviet time.
one reason more that i think it is post soviet.

there was a educated guess made, this type of cap only came in to existence on or about 1990 by undertheredstar.com.
so it fits.

Re: Professional Technical School cap

Ha! I tried to win that one! Congrats!

The buttons and label look a bit funny, but the overall construction of the hat looks good and sound. I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not an easy one to find!

Re: Professional Technical School cap

so you were the one that drove the price up :P
still 47,- euro ist bad i think (65 us) included shipping.

i don't really worry about this particular cap, it is perfectly okay for a very late or post soviet cap.

i just wanned to share this one since it is kinda rare and a different variation of the known caps of this type.
and maybe in the progress getting to know a bit more about it.
