Hungarian People's Republic Merit Medal.
This is, along with the Order of Merit, one of the nicest looking Hungarian awards, in my opinion. When you think of the beauty of Hungarian enamel well, this medal has it. This is the Gold grade... which, oddly, was the most awarded grade of this particular medal. The Silver grade was the least awarded. But, while not as rare as the Silver (or Bronze, for that matter), this is the more beautiful. In original case with ribbon bar (miniature attached).

Re: Medal of Merit, 1949
I just bought my first of these medals. It is a bronze version complete with a high-quality box. I have been looking to buy one since I came back from a vacation to Hungary and could not turn this one down. :thumbsup

Re: Medal of Merit, 1949
Unfortunately their prices are rising, particularly the silver and bronze grades.

Re: Medal of Merit, 1949
You are certainly right. I have noticed a slow but steady rise. That is why I decided I had to get one now. I only wish I could find one with a document. I will have to be patient.
