I am not smart enough to determine it's authenticity, but it's not really NKVD - it's the academy for political officers.

edit: OK, Now I have noticed the rank and function.

I second Charlet's request because on the surface - and from what I can see in the photos - it looks plausible as a legitimate document. However, I cannot tell from the text alone whether or not it is really a 1940 document.

If you didn't pay some crazy price for it, then that's a good sign.

Does the paper "feel" old (as in slightly rough because of the low grade paper used at that time)? Does it "smell" old? I used to get asked that question by people mentoring me in the process of learning to determine authenticity on my own. An older "smelling" document tends to have the scent of a library that hasn't been modernized too much. are there any staples holding the pages in and if so, are they rusted? If the paper is just glued in place, then it should not show signs of being glued, e.g. darker areas where the glue soaked through the paper.

The ink seems to be fading in spots, which is good, but the stamp, signature and hand-written data all seem to be using the exact same shade of blue, which brings in a little doubt.

Close-ups will help. The actual document is more than likely original, but determining if it was filled out, signed and stamped 74 years ago is the tricky part.

As for myself, I really hope that it is genuine.:thumbsup
