The Republic of Yemen was established by proclamation on 22rd May 1990. It was created by merging the former Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen, Capital: Sanaa) which had become independent from the Ottoman Empire in 1918 with the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen, Capital: Aden) which had gained independence from the United Kingdom on 30 Nov 1967.
After more searching around I managed to find these two south Yemen medals.
Note that these two medals also have a red star in the design which makes me think that red troopers medal could be North Yemen or Yemen after 22nd May 1990.

Here is a 15 years service example. Considerably larger than the Soviet equivalent. Not common but not costly neither.
