Fake Badge "Participant In The Hasan Battle 1938" Document.
... and a damn good one too. Still a brand new cover doesn't go quite right with faded interior pages. Entries are made with diluted ink.

Good, something to go with the fake Khasan badge I bought back in my third year of collecting :(
The photo on the fake doc is odd. See the white semi-circle! I suspect that it may be where a stamp was "washed" out when the photo was removed from some other doc. Ideas??? Shawn |

Shawn,
Note that the white semi-circle is on the right side of the photo, so it was obviously intended to be on the left side of a document. Alexei |

Alexei,
Exactly. But what I can't figure out without seeing it is: 1) Has it actually been "washed" or "bleached"? or, 2) Is it a reprint from a genuine photo with the stamp blocked out in the printing process? or, 3) Is it (unlikely but possible) some odd form of original photo where the developer left space for the stamp? I suspect #2 as it would be hard to clean it that well (#1) and I have never seen an original like that (#3). Shawn |

Shawn,
I think it's an original old photo, that was never used, and had faded with time. the paper looks old. Fortunately, I still have this document. Alexei |

Photos w/semi-circles
Actually, Russian ID photos are often made with the semicircle area for placing the "pechat". I don't know how far back that practice started, however. In 1992, I had some ID photos made in Moscow, and the pictures were printed with a blank semi-circle area to accomodate the obligatory rubber stamps.

I suspect that this is a very old practice as in the one shown above. nteresting that it is rare in the old days though.
