admiral of fleet of USSR

I have an admiral of fleet of USSR parade uniform with ribbon bar and some badges. It does not have a hole for the hero star. Were there admirals of fleet of USSR that did not have a hero star? The uniform seems to be "genuine" as far as the sleave rank and star with wreath as well as collar embroidery and shoulder boards. The uniform buttons have "68" on them. Could this be a uniform that was peiced together?

thanks,

Larry

This guy also wears one :-)

It is a surplus jacket with a ribbon bar that is supposed to be Gorshkov or so. The uniform is strictly for my own collection, a space filler until I can find a real one - or something with a rank close enough. Admiral Flota; right Doug? ;-)

uniform

Larry,

These full Admiral of the Fleet of the USSR uniforms are quite common (both black and white), mostly made from 'parts' and sold in the open markets in Moscow, St.Pete, etc. The number of "Gorshkov" uniforms out there, if all real, would mean he wore a new outfit more often than the suitcase girls on 'Deal or No Deal'.

Tretov,
Be patient... :) good photo though of your office!

thanks,

Although this may be a "parts" uniform does this mean it is still real parts and still represents a complete uniform although just not historicaly relevent or belonged to a real person.

parts

Hi Larry,

Well, its probably a case of both real and repro parts. I would say the tunic itself, the buttons, and part of the sleeve rank are ok; the sleeve star, the collar embroidery and the boards are probably made up. The problem is that they are, in general, made by the same people that made the originals for the late era USSR uniforms (now to sell to tourists in Moscow and St.Pete). There is some real junk coming out of Ukraine, but this is not an example of that. This mix of "real" and modern made parts is a good overall example of the uniform, but not issued to a real person.

Still, those are not cheap to buy, I paid quite good money for mine. The quality is excellent! If there is a interest, I can make some photos tomorrow in daylight.
