Shirts, ties and gloves


62.Shirt with tie is worn with uniform jackets with open collar as well as without uniform jacket.
When worn under uniform jacket, shirt’s collar should be at the same level as upper edge of the jacket’s collar or stand out above it not higher than 0.5cm.
When worn without uniform jacket the shirt must be worn with removable shoulderboards (fig. 114-118).
63.Gloves are obligatory for the parade in-formation uniform.
In the Navy with parade uniform and with white jacket with standing collar admirals, generals and officers wear white gloves; With all other kinds of uniforms – black or brown.
The gloves are not removed for saluting.


Footwear


64.When wearing uniforms, accompanying footwear should be in usable condition, of accepted model and colour, always cleaned; shoes and half shoes – tied, Boots’ straps hidden inside tops.
It is forbidden to wear high boots with lowered or folded tops.
With white footwear socks in bright colours are to be worn and with black – in dark colour.
Note. In summertime on ships it is acceptable out of formation and off duty to wear sandals or sport shoes.


Equipment, load and weaponry worn with uniforms


65.Parade belt on parade jacket of marshals and generals should be laying on the middle row of buttons; on parade jacket of officers – should cover third upper button; when worn on overcoats, the belt should lay on the lowest button row in the front and should be behind the back strap in the back. The buckle should be worn on the front, exactly in the center.
66.Belt of officer’s equipment should go at the waist line on gimnasterka; on overcoat – the belt should lay on the lowest button row in the front and should be behind the back strap in the back. The buckle should always be in the middle. The shoulder strap goes under right shoulderboard.
67.Belt is worn over overcoats, double-breasted padded jackets, fur coats, uniform jackets, gimnasterkas, over trousers with sailor and flannel shirt, and over telogreyka padded jackets for especially cold regions.
68.Belt on overcoats for privates, NCOs and officer cadets is worn: in the back behind the back strap and in the front fastened by a buckle; on overcoats of seamen, naval officer cadets and Nakhimov cadets, belt’s buckle should be between the fourth and the fifth upper button.
On uniform jacket for privates, NCOs and officer cadets the belt should go between the fourth and the fifth button and on uniform jacket for Suvorov cadets – between the sixth and the seventh button,
On gimnasterka, the belt should go aroud the waist; on double-breasted padded jackets, it should go through “slots” on the back and should lay on two hooks on sides.
In all cases the belt is fastened by a buckle, which should always be in the center. Folds under belt should be smoothed.
Note. The way of wearing field load for privates and NCOs of the motorized infantry is described in details in appendix nr.3.
69.Pistol is worn on a belt over overcoats or gimnasterki on the right side, a bit further behind trousers’ pocket.
In the Navy, pistol’s belt is worn under uniform jacket or over overcoat, and with sailor and flannel shirt – instead of sailor’s belt.
70.Dagger is worn in the Navy on belt with hangers, worn: with parade and parade walking-out uniforms – under uniform jacket; when on duty – under uniform jacket and when wearing overcoat – over it.

Rank insignia


71.Shoulderboards have two types: For parade walking out and for everyday and field uniforms. They can also be divided according to the attachment method removable and sewn-on.
Removable shoulderboards are worn on everyday jacket with closed collar, gimnasterka, shirt, overcoat (in the Soviet Army), bekesha coat, fur coat, double-breasted padded jacket and on telogreyka padded jacket.
Sewn-on shoulderboards are worn on open-collar jackets, parade jacket with standing collar for privates and NCOs, on overcoat (in the Navy), short coat and summer coat. It is acceptable to wear sewn-on shoulderboards on overcoats of marshals, generals and officers of the Soviet Army. On summer coat for marshals of the Soviet Union the shoulderboards must be removable.
72.On flannel shirts, sailor shirts and work shirts instead of standard shoulderboards, small square sewn-on boards (“pogonchiki”) are worn. Those are made of: for flannel shirts – black wool material and for sailor and work shirts – the same material as the shirt; on flannel shirts for NCOs and seamen of naval avation, “pogonchiki” should be in blue colour.
73.On shoulderboards of marshals, generals, admirals and officers stars are placed to show the rank:

74.The stars are placed on shoulderboards:
for marshals, generals and admirals – on vertical axis;
for colonels and captains 1st rank – two lower stars on stripes, the third one – above lower two, on vertical axis;
for lieutenant colonels and captains 2nd rank – on stripes;
for majors and captains 3rd rank – on vertical axis;
for captains and lieutenant-captains – two lower in the middle of side-fields, two upper – on stripe, above the first two;
for senior lieutenants – two lower in the middle of side-fields, third one on stripe, above them;
for lieutenants – in the middle of the side-fields;
for junior lieutenants – on stripe;
On shoulderboards for Marshals, generals and admirals, the are embrioded and for officers – metal.
On parade and everyday shoulderboards for marshals the stars are in gold colour with piping in the same colour as the board’s piping.
On shoulderboards for generals, admirals and officers sliver stars are to be worn on gold-coloured boards and gold – on silver-coloured boards.
In the Soviet Army on khaki shoulderboards for everyday uniforms the stars are gold and on khaki shoulderboards for field uniforms the stars are khaki.

Due to my long absence There wasn't much of progress here. Also I am quite busy lately, but if everything goes right, I will be back to work on this in november and hopefully everything will be finished by the end of november.

Due to some troubles with my machine (resulting, among all with the loss of a part of the work already done) I was absent for some time. Now I am back. For good, let's hope.

75.On shoulderboards for NCOs and privates sewn-on stripes are worn as rank indicators; In the navy they are worn also on “pogonchiki”.
On parade wlking-out (in the Navy also on everyday) uniforms the stripes should be in gold colour, and on boards of NCOs of special services (technical, medical, veterinarian, administrative) – in silver colour.
On everyday/field uniforms of the Soviet Army NCOs the stripes should be in red colour.
76.On shoulderboards for officer cadets of the Soviet Army military schools additional 13mm wide stripe is sewn on around board’s edges (side edges and upper edge).
On shoulderboards and pogonchiki for officer cadets of the Navy military schools metal anchors are worn. The size of the anchors should be: on standard shoulderboards 60mm, on “pogonchiki” – 43mm.
On shoulderboards for officer cadets who have NCO ranks, rank stripes (as described in point 75) are worn. In the military schools of the Soviet Army, rank stripes are sewn on over the edge stripe.
On shoulderboards for officer cadets of the branch military schools (in the Soviet Army), officer cadets of ship and ship engineering services officer schools and officer cadets of the costal defense military schools of the Navy the stripes should be in gold colour.
On shoulderboards of quatermaster schools, military technical chools, military medical schools and other service military schools, the stripes should be in silver colour.
Colour of the anchors on shoulderboards of the naval officer cadets should be the same as colour of the rank stripes.
77.Size of the rank stripes on shoulderboards are as follows:

Rank stripes are placed:
- On shoulderboards for michmany – in the middle along the whole board;
- On shoulderboards for NCOs of the Soviet Army and those of the Navy that wear army uniforms – 60mm from the upper edge of the board to the upper edge of the first horizontal stripe. On boards of starshiny (sergeants) and senior seamen this distance should be 40mm. Other horizontal stripes are placed below the upper one, with distance between them of 2mm.
- The vertical stripe on boards for starshina is placed on the vertical axis of the board from it’s lower edge to the horizontal stripe; The upper end of the vertical stripe is to be hidden below the horizontal stripe.
On “pogonchiki” of starshiny 1st and 2nd class (sergeants, junior sergeants) and senior seamen stripes are placed 8mm above the lower edge of the board. Distance between stripes should be 2mm.
On “pogonchiki” of glavstarshiny (senior sergeants) stripes are placed in equal distance from both upper and lower edge of the board.
On “pogonchiki” of starshiny” the horizontal stripe is placed 8mm from the upper edge of the board and the vertical stripe is placed on the vertical axis of the board from it’s lower edge to the horizontal stripe.
78.Metal anchors on shoulderboards and “pogonchiki” of officer cadets are placed vertically: on shoulderboard – 10mm and on “pogonchiki” – 3,5mm from the bottom of the anchor to the lower edge of the board.
79.On shoulderboards of NCO, seamen and privates of the Navy, on shoulderboards of Suvorov and Nakhimov cadets as well as on “pogonchiki” of seamen (expect for the senior seamen) and Nakhimov cadets letters are stenciled in yellow paint. Letters are to indicate fleet (flotilla) or the military school (for cadets), for example:

Note. On pogonchiki of “michman” and “starshyna” ranks letters are not placed.

80. Letter height on shoulderboards for NCO’s and seamen of the Navy and Nakhimov cadets – 40mm and on shoulderboards of Suvorov cadets – 25mm (capital letters) and 15mm (small letters)
81. In the Navy letters are placed: on shoulderboards 20mm from the lower edge of the board to the lower edge of the letters, and on pogonchiki – 5mm from the lower edge. On shoulderboards of the servicemen of the navy with Soviet Army uniform, letters are placed in the middle between the lower edge of the board and the lowest stripe.
On shoulderboards of the Suvorov Cadets the letters are placed 15mm from the lower edge of the board to the lower edge of the lower row of the letters; Between two rows of the letters, there should be 13mm-wide space.
82. Chief marshals, branch marshals, generals of artillery, engineer-technical service (in the Navy), generals of justice, medical and veterinarian services, admirals of the ship-engineering service, officers, NCOs, soldiers and officer cadets of the military schools of the Soviet Army as well as NCOs, soldiers and officer cadets of the Navy who wear Army uniforms, wear the following emblems, in accordance to their branch:

On collar tabs of the overcoats, double-breasted padded jackes, summer coats and jackets with open collar.
84.Emblems on shoulderboards are placed on the vertical axis of the board in the following distance from the bottom edge of the board to the center of the emblem:
For chief marshals and branch marshals – 100mm, for generals and admirals – 110mm, for officers 90-100mm, for soldiers and NCOs – on 14cm-long boards (size 1) – 95mm, on 15cm-long boards (size 2) – 105mm, on 16cm-long boards (size 3) – 115mm;
On collar tabs – 10mm from the centre of the upper edge of the tab to the upper edge of the emblem.
85.In the Soviet Army proper collar tabs are worn in accordance to the branch of service on overcoats, double-breasted padded jackets, summer coats for generals and officers, parade walking-out jackets with open collar for officers, Parade walking-out jackets with standing collar and jackets with open collar.
Collar tabs for the marshals of the Soviet Union display the gold embroidery in the shape of oak leaves ant collar tabs of chief marshals, branch marshals and generals of the Soviet Army – gold (silver) embroidery in the shape of laurel branches.
Collar tabs for parade-walking out jacket of the officers of the Soviet Army have embroided gold frame.
On collar tabs for parade walking-out jackets with standing collar for NCOs a single gold (silver), 6mm-wide stripe is sewn on the center of the tabs, along tab’s axis.
On the collars for gimnasterki and padded jackets of the military construction personnel romb-shaped tabs are worn.
86. Collars of the jackets with open collars for marshals and generals of the Soviet Army display embroidery: for marshals of the Soviet Union – in the shape of oak leaves and for chief marshals, branch marshals and generals – in the shape of laurel branches; on parade, parade walking-out and bright-gray jackets the embroidery has gold (silver) colour, and on everyday jackets – khaki colour.
Collars of parade walking-out jackets for admirals, generals and officers of the Navy display embriodery: for marshals of the Soviet Union – in the shape of oak branches, anchor and rope, for admirals and generals – in the shape of laurel branches, anchor and rope; for officers – embroidery or a metal ornament in the shape of laurel branches and anchor.
87. The colours of the shoulderboards and collar tabs as well as cap bands, piping, trouser stripes, embroidery and ornaments can be found in the appendix nr.1.

Sleeve rank insignia for admirals and officers of the ship and ship engineering services

88. Sleeve insignia have the form of gold stripes.
Number of stripes proper for each rank are set as follows:
for admirals of the fleet of the Soviet Union – one wide and four medium;
for admirals – one wide and three medium;
for vice-admirals – one wide and two medium;
for kontr-admirals – one wide and one medium;
for captains 1st rank – one wide;
for captains 2nd rank – four medium;
for captains 3rd rank – three medium;
for lieutenant captains – two medium and one narrow
for senior lieutenants – two medium;
for lieutenants – one medium and one narrow;
for junior lieutenants – one medium.

Above sleeve insignia are to be worn also by officers of the technical engineering service serving on ships and naval HQs.
89.The stripes are worn only on double-breasted jackets with open collar and dark-blue jackets with standing collar (with the exception for cotton ones) on the outer side of both sleeves, parallel to sleeves’ bottom edges, 80mm above them (length of the stripes on parade jacket 100mm). Stripes width: wide – 30mm, medium – 13mm, narrow – 6mm. narrower stripes are sewn above wider.
90. Five-armed embroided stars are worn over the stripes: for admirals – 50mm in diameter, for officers – 30mm in diameter. The distance from highest stripe’s upper edge to the star’s centre – 30mm.

Sleeve insignia for cadets of the naval schools

91. officer cadets of the naval schools and Nakhimov cadets wear sleeve insignia on their uniforms which indicate year/class of their education: officer cadets – gold (silver) chevrons, Nakhimov cadets – red chevrons. The chevrons have their top pointing downwards.
The chevrons are sewn on uniform-colored patches. In accordance to the school year (class), the cadets wear:
1st year and 8th class.......................................................................................1 chevron,

Patches with chevrons are sewn on outer side of the left sleeve of overcoats, double-breasted short coats, flannel and uniform shirts with the distance of 30mm from elbow to the top of the lowest chevron (above elbow).

Sleeve insignia indicating specialty in the Navy

92. NCOs and sailors of the navy (the ones who wear naval uniforms) wear special sleeve patches indicating their specialty on their uniforms. The patch has a form of a uniform-coloured circle, with a frame stitched around it’s edge: for michmany (starshyny) and glavstarshiny (sr. sergeants) – in gold colour; for the rest of NCOs and sailors – in red colour. Patch diameter (inclouding colour frame) – 60mm, frame width – 5mm. In the center of the patch a symbol is stitched in red thread, wich indicates specialty:

Help needed

To all those who are familiar with seamines:
What the hell is minrep?!
I don't know what this is even from the picture and I couldn't find that word in russian-polish military dictionary from 1954 (so more or less the same period).
On a picture of a patch it looks like some kind of a chain - either to protect, transport or deactivate the mine? No idea to be honest...

in the dutch army it stands for mine repatriating ,, or in other worths getting mines away from where they are.

some times done by demolishing them ,, some times by just taking the fuse out and installing it back on annother place.

i dont not know a army that still does this ,, in the netherlands it has long gone since it was done.

it was done around the 50´s

OK, but here it stands for a thing (mine surrounded by minrep) - could it be, that this name also stand for a thing used to remove the mines? It would make sense, esp. that foreign words aren't uncommon in Russian.
