Re: DPRK Award Documents.
Some excellent pieces there. The 105 Tank citation is a very good indicator of just what actions were befitting the Soldier's Honour Order 1st Class.
Unfortunately, if most of these early documents were captured, destroyed, damaged or simply shuffled it may mean we never be able to research our earlier awards to completion. I just wish I knew who was awarded the Military Merits Medal #1. (Or Hero Of Labour #1-#150)

Well, this is not for #1, but here you go. This is part of military ID. This ID is also one of the captured item by U.S. Intelligence. 1. August 15th 1950, In 'Pohang' battle, he killed 10 enemy soldiers by his machingun. - Order of Soldier's Glory 2nd class 2. March 29th 1951, In 'Daewha-ri' battle, he gave a telling shot in cannon(This dipiction has ambiguous word, not sure what exatly meaning). - Awarded Military Merit medal Also, I've read autobiography who participated in Korean War as North Korean army. He collected U.S. 12.7mm machingun parts and assembled 3 of them, and he was recommended to award 'Medal of Military Merit'. Well, there is a lot of information about these, but none of South Koreans study them. I'm the only researcher in S.Korea... |

Re: DPRK Award Documents.
Were both of these awards unnumbered? I know Soldier's Honour Orders were almost always unnumbered (as they came from the USSR without serials) but earlier Military Merit Medals were numbered (up to a point).
This very early Soldier's Honour Order 1st Class was locally numbered with a serial number <20.

I think that number is not for award's serial number. Because form wrote as 'Award, Decree no., Class, Date'. I guess the number of Soldier's Honor is for Order booklet or decree number. And number of medal is for the date(May 1951) or booklet number. Last edited by amdl614; 04-28-2017 at 02:06 PM. |
