Evaluation Documents

Here's a nice example of an early post-war valuation document on the official form. I believe that this short form was dropped soon after - in another thread in this category, You can see a doc of this type done in a more standard manner: http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...arliament.html

I also own another one from the later period and it looks similar to the standard ones.

Anyway, here's what it says:

Service characteristics

Sgt. Urbański Witold, son of Bolesław of the military unit number 2875
born in 1921 in Włocławek, Łęgska str. nr 55 [this seems to be a home address, so it's likely a mistake]
Mobilised on 22.02.1945 by the Regional Supplementary Command in Częstochowa nationality:Polish
Soldier's characteristics: Disciplined, brave, assigned duties he fulfilled conscientiously.
Current post: Senior writer at the Regiment Command
Participation in the fights: 1st Ukrainian Front, since 16.04.1945 to 9.05.1945
Awards and prizes: "Cross of the Brave", Bronze medal "Meritorious on the field of Glory", praise for the good work.
Punishments: none
Citizen's characteristics: Of healthy democratic principles, very good, dutiful soldier, brave, hard-working, in the office work very willing and scrupulous, with initiative.
Commander's conclusion: Fit for any office work

Interestingly: He was on the front for less than a month, during which he was awarded two combat awards. And he was a writer!

The unit here is probably 28th infantry regiment, as a person with exactly the same name and awards is listed in the regiment's awardees list.

Re: Evaluation documents

And here's a valuation document from 1970's. As can be seen - no special form, just a piece of paper. It's not even signed or stamped - not sure why.

It simply states that cpt. Jaraczewski, who started his service in 1958 a KBW officer school, has been commanding various units and now is a company commander. During his service he took part in numerous excersises and it had a general bad impact on his physical and psyhical health. Currently, his health problems make him start conflicts with everybody around and he has been sent to the medical committee to evaluate his fitness for the professional army service.

Re: Evaluation documents

An interesting early post-war doc - not dated but probably late 1945:
"Artillery sargent Zakrzewski Witold son of Lucjan, holding the position of the chief of the battery, born in 1916 in the village of Swilycze, powiat of Wysoka-Wilejka, Brześć on Bug Voivodeship [currently Belarus].Has education of 3 classes of gimnazjum [mid-grade school]. Mobilised to the Polish /army on 19th MArch 1944 in Krasnysk. For good conduct in the fights was awarded 3 bronze "Meritous on the Field of Glory" medals. To the 19th Separate Anti-armor Artillery Unit he arrived from the 19th Anti-armor Artillery Regiment.

During his service in the 19th Separate Anti-Armor Artillery Unit on the position of the chief of the battery, he shown a lot of organisational skills. Energetic, disciplined, caring about soldier's well-being, has earned high respect not only among soldiers of his sub-unit but also among the commanders. Intelligent, friendly, ambitious, he showed a lot of private initiative. He fulfilled hisduties in a satisfactory manner. Politically well-aware.

Commander of the 1st battery lt. Rokita
/-/

I agree with the opinion
Deputy commander for political-educational affairs jr. lt. Orliński
/-/"

It was not unusual for a soldier to get more than one "Meritous..." medals, but to get 3 in the same class was exceptional. And ithappened within ~2 years of service!

Also the commander must have been well-educated - had a good caligraphy and rich vocabulary.
