Medal "For Merits In The Volunteer Squads Of Working Class".

Here is the Medal "For Merit In The Volunteer Squads Of Labourers" (Медал "За Заслуги Доброволни Отряди На Трудещите Се"). Founded on 4th April 1984 over two decades after the start of the squads in 1960.

Actually, this medal is "For Merit in the Volunteer Detachments of the Working Class". Note the Otryadnik badge on the avers- virtually the same as the Russian "Druzhinnik". Basically, a merit medal for volunteer police.

They boosted the police and border guards.
Very much what we call "plastic police" in Britain.
