So guys, as we draw nearer to the end of another year, it's time for a little self indulgence!

What have you done this year in collecting that you're proud of? Finally bought and researched that Nevsky that you've been after for so long?

Have you learned anything new? Never buy awards whilst operating heavy machinery it may result in loss of limbs

Any plans on how to make next year a good one for your collection? Remembering to avoid wearing your awards in the bath again. However much you wish you were, you're not a Submariner!

For me, I only started collecting in April 2012 and it's been a helluva ride.

The thing i'm most proud of is a hard one for me, as this year as every new award has been a new experience. But i'd say i'm proudest of my Red Banner of Labour collection. Now only missing Screwbacks and an Type 3 with the mint mark at the top! The screwbacks may have to wait a while! :chuckle

The most important thing i've learnt this year is " You can never read enough" I havent read as fast as have this year since Harry Potter came out :laff and also "Clear, High resolution photos of the front and back of the piece! Suspension is not needed!"

And what does next year hold? By this time next year, i hope to have a Red Banner and a Order for Service to the Motherland 3rd class. Not the highest of hopes ever, but i like to set realistic dreams so i can't be dissapointed! :o

Forgive the self indulgence!

What are your guys thoughts?

Recently I bought four award groups from an eBay seller. I don't have much experience with document entries, but I knew the booklets themselves were original and that the awards were original. I simply wasn't sure about the entries, but I decided to trust the seller's "top rated seller" status and his 100% positive feedback that he received from hundreds of people. Furthermore, one group also had a Capture of Berlin Medal with document, that was definitely original, so I decided to trust the order booklet.

When I received the groups, all booklet entries (names, award serial numbers, signatures) turned out to be fake.

Looking back, I suspect the seller knew this, since he didn't show pictures of the signature and name pages of the booklets, it didn't take a microscope to come to the conclusion that the entries are fake, and he stated in every auction:
"The award document is in fair condition, but I am not an expert on documents so dont know if this is 100 % original. It is my opinion that the document is original, as I dont see any evident signs of forgery."
and
"if in the description it is specified that the transaction is considered finished from the moment of payment, or is specified that I cannot to guarantee originality of the goods (or its certain part) and the buyer himself decides to make purchase or not - no claims and returns will be accepted."

So, nothing to do about it. It's the first time I've been burned in four years. Lesson learned and one less seller to trust. When I look at his feedback profile, I can see that he has sold more similar groups with fake documents in the past, and he will probably continue to do so. Unfortunately there's no way to warn his future customers.

The seller is xoxol5 (Alexander Tomylo) from Ukraine. I should add that I'm not 100% sure he knew the booklets were fake and that he technically didn't do anything wrong (it's not forbidden to sell fakes and he had a disclaimer); I just want to warn everybody and advise them to take a very good look at the documents he sells. Don't trust feedback, only trust your own experience and that of objective experts (for example those here on the forum).

It is actually 1 of 6 which was made for the 6 heads of government! When Stalin died and Khrushchev's destalinization program was enforced it was saved. So it is probably the only one still left.
Established in 1967. Awarded to Israeli citizens who fought against the Nazis in one of the Allies armed forces, as a partisan, or as an underground movement member. Among others, this has been awarded to veterans of the Soviet armed forces for service in the Great Patriotic War who have emigrated to Israel in recent decades.

The document's cover reads:

STATE OF ISRAEL

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

This ribbon is special – it is the only Israeli ribbon that has been converted to a medal. No other ribbon in the IDF or state of Israel has a medal also, except the three decorations of the IDF, and the police decorations.

If someone got a group of a Jewish veteran, it is not complete without this medal.
BTW, the medal is very hard to get, and not available in stores, only the MOD issued those. But the ribbon is R2 or so, and could be easily obtained. Remember that many veterans awarded with the ribbon only, since the medal was introduced in 2000, and the ribbon in 1967.
This medal was established in 1968 in honour of Astronaut Yu. A. Gagarin, who performed the first space flight by man on the 12th of April, 1961.
He lost his life on 27th March 1968, in a tragic aircraft accident while carrying out a training flight.
