Original Jan. 23, 1782 payment note for 9 pounds, 17 schillings to War of Independence Captain John Vaughn, Connecticut. Signed vertically by Hezikiah Rogers (Hez Rogers). Rogers served in the early part of the Revolutionary War as major, retired from combat, and served on the Pay Table Committee, which financed the military. After the war, Rogers ratified the United States Constitution as a Connecticut Delegate on Jan. 7, 1788 (See Wikipedia) Also signed horizontally by William Mosley, future CT Senator, and Elizar Wales, Presbyterian minister and Justice of the Peace.
The Pay-Table Committee handled the military finances for the colony of Connecticut during the American Revolution.
