This is an original letter dated 1862, Headquarters, Excelsior Brigade; where Charles Dwight has written a fantastic 2 page letter home to his mother regarding his well being, a mulatto servant of a Confederate officer taken, detailing the present condition of Richmond as hundreds lay dying...signed Charly ..... Letter is 8x11, two pages over very good condition.

Charles T. Dwightwas born May 5, 1842 attendedHarvard Universitybut left to join the army. Charles was lieutenant in the 70th regiment, taken prisoner inLibby Prison, but lived until March 9, 1884.....Enlisted on 11/1/1861 at Camp Farnum, MD as a 2nd Lieutenant.

On 11/1/1861 he was commissioned into \"B\" Co. NY 70th InfantryHe was discharged on 6/30/1864

He was listed as:* POW (Libby\'s Prison)* Exchanged 9/21/1862 Aiken\'s Landing, VA.

William Dwight, Jr.(July 14, 1831 – April 21, 1888), was a general in theUnion Armyduring theAmerican Civil War. Raised in Massachusetts, he came from a notable family of military leaders.
