Johnson Capt and A Quartermaster U.S. Army at Johnsonville, Tennessee. signed by Lieut. L.M. Beman Reg A 173rd O.V.I. Regt. QuarterMaster U.S. Army, at Johnsonville, Tenn. Articles included Field Desk, Monkey Wrench and Head Halter and strap all Serviceable. Very interesting document.This document measures 8\" x10\" opened but will be shipped folded as it has been all these years.
After research 1st Lieut, Luther M. Beman was the Regimental Quartermaster of the 173rd O.V.I. of Company F & S. He was from Gallia County, Ohio and born in 1827 and died March 12, 1901 in Thurman, Gallia County, Ohio. This document was found in 1st Lieut. Beman\'s field Desk recently found from Gallia County, Ohio.
The 173rd Infantry Regiments were formed in Gallipolis, Ohio and mustered into service Sept. 18, 1864 to serve a term of 1 year. Most were from Ohio\'s 11th District and immediately went to Nashville, Tenn. and eventually to Johnsonville, Tenn. They were under the command of Colonel John R. Hurd.
