Here\'s a classic @ 7 1/2\" wide by 8\" long single-sided official certificate from the Circa-1901 State of Illinois granting Ex-Union Civil War veterans the right to sell items in public-The certificate was never used with blank spots for the old soldier\'s name / county / info / date to be written into-Reads: \"License To Ex-Union Soldier or Sailor. State of Illinois_________ County. Whereas, _________ Having presented his certificate and papers of discharge, and having shown proofs of his identity as the person named in his certificate of honorable discharge, as provided in an Act of the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, entitled. An Act permitting all ex-Union soldiers and sailors, honorably discharged from the military or marine service of the United States, the right to vend, hawk and peddle goods, wares, fruits or merchandise not prohibited by law in any county, town, village, incorporated city or municipality in the State of Illinois. Approved May 11, 1901. In force July 1, 1901. Many of the items are VINTAGE and although they are in very fine condition, they may not function as well as when they were made decades ago. In other words, if you intend on using a 50+ year old letter opener and it breaks, don\'t get mad at us. It may be hard to believe, but we have received a couple negatives because people broke vintage items while trying to use them.
