This is an Afghan used SSh68 helmet left behind by the Soviets after their war in Afghanistan, and brought back by a US Serviceman sometime during the US War in Afghanistan. There is Afghan Farsi written under one of the liner pads, as well as the rank and name of the US Serviceman that brought the helmet back. Missing the chinstraps, the Afghans would usually bend the bales down (as is done on this example) and tie rope to them as a makeshift chinstrap. This helmet was likely looted by the Mujahedeen sometime during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. Definitely a great and scarce piece of history, practically akin to an ARVN helmet from the Vietnam War. There are many listed claiming to be Afghan used, but this one is the most compelling. Open to offers.
