DESCRIPTION:This is a nice, very early handwritten letter. Written on nice early handmade "LAID" paper, using a quill pen and ink.
Headed Boston and dated May 28, 1814. Written by Asahel Strong to his brother Jonathan in Northampton, Mass. A great early letter and writing and spelling, etc. Talks about arriving after a journey and accommodations, etc. Also mentions an Election Sermon he went to. Nice early date, making this 210 YEARS OLD!!! Nice correspondence between brothers and between 2 major cities in Massachusetts.
A large piece of paper, folded in half for the letter, and torn across the bottom to ONLY USE THE AMOUNT OF (very scarce and expensive) PAPER THAT WAS NEEDED. Paper was then folded to form the envelope (separate envelopes were not invented yet!!), and sealed with red sealing wax....some is still present!! The address to Northampton is clearly seen!!!
Very suitable for framing. Great for display in a collection room, family room, office, or man cave!!
Scans show all the details.Condition is excellent overall. Has been folded, PROBABLY BY THE SOLDIER AT THE TIME TO KEEP IN HIS POCKET!!
