I am a member of the New York Army National Guard. I am with one of the state's Military Police units.


My unit was mobilized on the night of the event. Boots were on ground at the Capitol the next day.


Our mission was to protect, guard, and defend the Capitol and all Capitol grounds.


We began our guard unarmed. As the rumor mill began to spin, as the media machine pumped out stories, and as fears of another incident grew, we were forced to arm.


My unit patrolled directly on and within the Capitol building. We rotated our patrol through a multi-layer permitter. A large gate was put up on the street of the Capitol. We manned this gate and rotated the multi-level patrol. We would use the rotation to eat, relieve, and sleep all within the body of the Capitol.


As each day passed the city filled with more military and law enforcement. By the time the inauguration came around (January 20th, 2021) the entire city had become a police state. There was military and law enforcement on every block of DC.


This card was given to us to signify our authority to carry out the Capitol police’s duties and will. We were instructed to keep this on us at all times and present this along with our military ID if the need would arise.
