The Alpenflage pattern, also known as pizza camo, is based off the WWII German Army pattern known as Leibermuster which was issued to Waffen SS and Wehrmacht troops. The Swiss are very smart and so are the Germans and they knew that red light has the longest wavelength and when used on these uniforms it has the effect of blending the colors together once the viewer is so many yards away from it!
