Nice HORSTMANN Civil War Period Identified US Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer's Sword, Scabbard, & Knot

DESCRIPTION:Nice, original full length officer's Model 1860 Staff & Field sword, scabbard, & knot. I have included a variety of photos for you to be able to appreciate the completeness of this sword rig..

Nice to find a complete early sword like this in fairly decent shape. Hilt is in excellent condition overall, with fold-down side piece. Nice eagle and military motif cast into the brass. Scabbard has fancy hangers and drag. Knot is complete, and wrapped on the handle. STILL WRAPPED ON IN THE PROPER WAY, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

Blade fairly clean and bright. Has the maker, HORSTMANN and PHILADELPHIA on the throat. Also a nice military eagle and other decorations on the blade. And, nicely IDENTIFIED with officer's name etched on the blade, EDGAR R. CHAMPLIN.

Only flaw is that the handle grip is just a tiny bit loose. THIS SWORD HAS A GREAT LOOK. REALLY NICE AGED BRASS PATINA TO THE HILT AND HANDLE AND MAKES A GREAT DECORATOR. Would look great over a fireplace or somewhere else on the wall.

Original steel scabbard is still with it. as described, which is quite unusual. Often they became separated from the sword over the many years. And it has both fancy hangers/rings, which helps with hanging or even use.

FULL LENGTH BLADE, WITH NO BREAKAGE. Thiswould make a great addition to ANY SWORD OR CIVIL WAR COLLECTION OR DISPLAY. IT WOULD ALSO MAKE A GREAT DECORATOR ON A WALL, OVER A FIREPLACE, ETC., in a living room, family room, Man Cave, or office, etc. Even for a non-sword or non-Civil War collector, it still MAKES A GREAT EARLY ANTIQUE IDENTIFIED MILITARY DECORATOR FOR ANYONE!!!

ESPECIALLY NICE IN ITS LOOK, OVERALL COMPLETENESS, AND OF COURSE THE IDENTIFICATION. Really adds to the history of it.

Blade measures 31" long, while sword measures about 37 1/2" overall. No markings that I can find other than those described. However, has really nice design etched on the top half or so of the blade as shown. Has a great early look!!!
