This is an immaculate article of the type of uniform worn by Soviet troops throughout the Afghan Conflict of 1979-1989. Known as the Afghanka; it offers a rather modern take on the standard combat uniform for the time featuring gusseted shoulders, two breast pockets, two waist pockets, and two hook & loop-secured sleeve pockets; features that would interestingly enough be interpreted and adopted in many cuts of modern western uniforms. If I had to compare the US BDU of the time to the Afganka then the Afganka has it beat by a mile out of the bag when it comes to features, comfort, and durability.
When I first received this a long while ago I noticed that aside from it's NOS appearance it was missing it's waist drawstring and I repaired this with Tan 499 paracord(which matched VERY well) and two keepers and it now functions as it should. Other extras are mechanized infantry collar insignia and rank stars representing the rank of Captain on both epaulets all of which are original NOS soviet surplus and was carefully compared to original photographs of Soviet troops to ensure this was represented correctly.
Size is 50-3 - 170cm height / 100cm Chest / 81cm Waist
