RARE ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN DOUBLE SIDED TWO PAGE LETTER FROM WW2 U.S. ARMY 101st AIRBORNE DIVISION 327th GLIDER INFANTRY D-DAY, NORMANDY AND HOLLAND COMBAT WOUNDED VETERAN "PVT. VINCENT G. DeMARTINO". LETTER IS DATED FOR TUESDAY, MAY 18,1943 AND THE ENVELOPE IS DATED FOR MAY 19, 1943. THIS LETTER WAS WRITTEN BY PVT. DeMARTINO TO HIS PARENTS WHILE HE WAS COMBAT TRAINING AT THE "LAURINBURG-MAXTON, ARMY AIR BASE MAXTON, NORTH CAROLINA". LETTER WAS WRITTEN ON LETTERHEAD FROM THIS AAF BASE. IN THE LETTER PVT. DeMARTINO SERVED IN COMBAT FROM D-DAY, THRU THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN (WHERE HE WAS WOUNDED BY A GERMAN MORTAR), OPERATION MARKET GARDEN, BATTLE OF THE BULGE IN BASTOGNE (WHERE HE GOT TRENCH FOOT) AND THRU AUSTRIA/GERMANY IN 1945. AFTER LEAVING AUSTRIA/GERMANY IN 1945 PVT. DeMARTINO RECOVERED FROM HIS WAR TIME WOUNDS AND INJURIES AT A MEDICAL HOSPITAL AT CAMP BUTNER, NORTH CAROLINA BEFORE BEING HONORABLE DISCHARGED FROM THE U.S. ARMY.
