DESCRIPTION: Very rare, very early antique contemporary Civil War history book set that came out in 1866, just after the war ended. Nice volume, focused on the famous Army of the Potomac, the most famous fighting force during the Civil War, involved in Bull Run, Gettysburg, Fredericksbury, Petersburg, and all the major AND FAMOUS Virginia battles.
The book contains 13 chapters, with about 30 maps and engraved portraits. All in 640 pages, complete with index.
This volume contains incredibly detailed and thorough history of this subject, and is very readable. A great, complete focused history of the outfit. ESPECIALLY USEFUL AND CURRENT AND ACCURATE AS IT WAS WRITTEN SOON AFTER THE WAR HAD ENDED!!! AS FIRST HAND AN ACCOUNT AS YOU CAN GET!!!
Hard cover with gold lettering. Nicecondition overall. Pages are excellent and binding and is strong. Book measures 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 2" thick.
Great reading and an excellent early, contemporary, primary reference written virtually while the war was being fought and the combatants were still alive and directly involved.
The attached scans can not do the set justice, but hopefully will provide an idea of the content and condition and great potential reading/enjoyment.
Again, this is a great classic to add to any serious Civil War collector's library.
