This is 100% ORIGINALofficial Soviet issue from 1980s, NOT a recent replica!
The medallion is 36 mmwide, 40mm tall not including the suspension device. Made in solid brass withgold finish and high quality "hot baked" enamels. The suspensionshows the raised logo of the Moscow Mint (MMD) on reverse.This badge has strikingimagery: Red Cross with a drop of blood on blue in the center, punctured by theGamma, Beta, and Alpha rays. The writing in the black band is "To aParticipant of the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Accident, ChAES (ChernobylAtomic Power Station)"
The badge is in GREAT condition, with perfect enamel. Thereis an occasional small spot oftarnish to the brass on the reverse,not too detractive. There are no ugly blemishes or significant oxidation spots,and the gold finish is still nicely preserved and bright.Includes original suspension with slightly worn ribbon,connecting link holding the medallion and fully functional pin attachment.
Awarded by the Soviet government to heroic firefighters,policemen and workers - many of them volunteers - who had come from all partsof the Soviet Union to participate in the rescue and clean-up efforts.They often worked at or in the immediate vicinity of the reactor site withlittle or no protection from the deadly radiation.
