US Civil War Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Sword Saber – w/Rare arched PS Justice. US Civil War Model 1840 Cavalry Sword, referred to as “TheOld Wristbreaker” among troops. There is NO Scabbard.
The ricasso on this sword is marked with the less commonarched \"P.S. Justice\" over \"Philada\" - indicating it was manufactured by P.S. Justice in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the American Civil War.
The arched P.S. Justice on this swords blade, is found only on the blades made by the firm itself so it is a US domestic blade. This makes this sword rarer.
The blades with the straight lined words “P. S. Justice are made with an imported blade and are more common.
Pommel area also has a \'323\' stamp
The blade is straight and has no nicks.
The saber has a very nice brass wire bound leather grip, which is mostly intact with some leather degradation. The twisted wire wrap is complete and has about three to four rows of the wire a little loose.
The length of the curved blade is 35 7/8”. Blade is 1 1/8’wide. Entire Sword is 41 ¼” long.
