sale for original letters from a former POW and member of the 398th BG/600th BS. Also included are 11 plus 43K Contact Class reunion newsletters and other information pertaining to his class.

Conrad Maxwell Zufall (1915-2013) was a 2Lt, later 1Lt, in the 398th BG, 600 BS. He was co-pilot on B-17G 42-102498 (Tailend Charlie) when he was shot down (information available on American Air Museum page). His regular aircraft was Georgia Cracker. Tailend Charlie was shot down on 30 May 44 over Dessau (MACR 5312). He was interned in Stalag Luft 3 (information onf 398th BG website). He stayed in the USAFR and retired as Lt Col. His civilian jobs were florist and flight instructor. For his military service he received the Air Medal, Prisoner of War Medal, European Theater Medal w/one bronze star, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hourglass device. 1. Five letters from Zufall to his wife whom he referred to as "Toots." Three letters are dated 1943 (2 are in envelopes and one is loose, one letter is dated 1944 in envelope and one letter is dated 1945. The 45 letter was written after Zufall was released from the POW camp and he was awaiting to be out processed. The contents providing his address to his wife, deplorable barracks conditions on base, wanting to be with his wife, giving her a pep talk, not having much time due to the pressure of training, etc.

2. AAF patch from his uniform. Color of patch on front is due to light under which photo was taken.

3. Last ribbon bar of Zufall with AM, ETO w/1 bz battle star, WWII Victory, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve medal w/Bz Hourglass Device. It is the later 1960's narrow metal slide on bar for five awards. It is clutch back with all frogs (clutches) present.

3. Eleven plus 43K pilot graduation class reunion newsletters and other information.

Letters/envelopes show normal wear/tear associated with age. This includes toning with age and other minor age related defects. The reunion newsletters show normal wear/tear associated with age. The photo of Zufall and his crew is not included in the sale.
