Here’s an ultra-rare relic from the Second World War!
An all original L.M. Sandwick D-200 Portable Phonograph made forthe US Navy, in good working condition.
According to my research, the 16 stars around the US Navylogo are “battle stars” awarded to each ship as medals of honor. The only vesselsdecorated with 16 are USS Nicholas and USS Russell - so this could have servedon either. I’m not a military historian, therefore I can’t voucher for thatwith certainty, what I can say is that this phonograph has providedimmeasurable joy and morale to US troops with tunes by the likes of Bing Crosbyfrom the motherland, echoing through endless days out at sea in the middle ofoceans around the globe, before making it back home heroically victorious.
It winds well and plays (see the video) but it skips, it couldbe the only record or the needle I have for it.
