The printed sentiment (listing photo # 2) reads: A CHRISTMAS SCENE IN THE SOUTHWEST PACIFIC/No ice, no snow, no bottled beer/No feminine forms on which to leer/No fancy thoughts on Tiffany tissue---/So accept this thought on Government issue/ For along with it goes a helluva cheer/For a Merry old Christmas and a Happy New Year! The ship image, in green, is that of a Colorado class battleship.
Signed by sailor W. L. Morton SK 1/c (store keeper 1st class) / Always love, Your Cousin, Bill.
The third listing photo shows that this Christmas greeting was printed in the print shop of U.S.S. Rigel 11-24-43 (November 11, 1943). The Rigel, like all fleet repair ships, shipped several machine shops, a printing shop, a large cafeteria/kitchen, supplies, etc., below decks that provided most all things needed by the fleet\'s warships.
