This item up for offers is a \" WW2 USAF Pilots Survival Kit \". Contains both containers, Canvas Pouch, and Emergency Signaling Mirror Type-2. Its a very clean kit for its age. Check the photos for condition and quality. The containers list the contents on the front. When the kits were emptied out they would be used for carrying water. This is a very respectable kit. The canvas pouch is super nice. I see no damage to this kit. Over all one of the early type survival kits by the US Military. Contents listed below. The kits known as ( Bail Out Kits ), were carried by pilots in the event of being forced down. In comparison to other later survival kits, these actually accommodated more items due to the period of time the pilot was expected to be missing. Modern pilot rescue techniques, especially with the use of helicopters were less likely to be stranded for a very long period of time. In WW2, a pilot could be down for a very long time. These kits were designed to maintain the pilots health and survivability. Just a neat history behind these kits. These are very respectable collectables and will make a great addition to your collection. Good luck.
.Kit, Emergency Sustenance, Type E-17. Known as a \'personal aids\' kit this contained escape and evasion equipment/food in two separate waterproof ethyl cellulose plastic flasks designed to fit into a small olive drab canvas pouch separated by an Emergency SignalingMirror/1 signal mirror (ESM/1). A list of the components and directions for use is printed on the side of each container. Contents were broadly packed in two categories - \'general\' and \'medical\'. The former contains 3 x bars of chocolate; 2 x packets of bouillon powder; chewing gum; 10 x double edged razor blades; fishing hooks and line; leader; a small compass; sewing kit; hacksaw blade; condoms; sharpening stone and should have some matches in a cylindrical plastic case but these appear to be missing. The contents of this flask would appear to be in good condition. The medical kit contains sulfanguanidine; halazone water purification tablets; atabrine; salt tablets; benzedrine; sulfadiazine; adhesive compress; sulfanilimide; a tooth brush; adhesive tape; iodine; tweezers; opthalmic ointment and eye ointment.
