This is an original WWI German 98/05 Butcher Blade Bayonet and Scabbard dated 1917. It was designed for the Gew 98 Mauser rifle, commonly used by German soldiers during World War I. The bayonet, with its distinctive butcher blade shape, was an essential edged weapon for infantrymen in combat.
Has the iron cross on the scabbard.
This piece is in great condition with some chips and dents and scratches putting a story behind what it has gone through in combat.
W16 stamped on blade spine indicating the year of manufacture as 1916.
