Alright, dudes, Snuggie Bear here, tuning in from the Bando Larry Liquidations command center. Poppy's got me listing some, like, really old paper stuff today. Not usually my scene, you know? I'm more circuits than dusty letters, and man, this stuff is dusty. But hey, it's actually pretty interesting, gotta admit. Kinda takes you back.
So, what we got here is a whole vibe, like a time capsule, from this super smart dude, Professor George R. Havens. Taught French forever over at OSU right here in Columbus. Gnarly, right?
Check out the cosmic collection:
* The Main Event: Okay, so, like, there's this totally intense two-page letter from WWI. George wrote it himself on this official-looking YMCA / Foyer du Soldat paper back in 1918 when he was serving overseas. He's writing to his wife Louise's folks, calling himself their son, which is super sweet, right? He talks about missing Louise like crazy and how he can't make Christmas 'cause he has to go to some, like, heavy-duty Modern Language meeting right here in Columbus. Wild timing, man. History, happening.
* Colombia Mission Letter (1961): And dig this – a typed letter from October 1961 from Keith & Eva Somers, missionaries down in Medellin, Colombia. It's on Oriental / Interamerican Missionary Society paper. They talk about literacy, Bible distribution, facing opposition (smashed windows!), and give thanks for prayers helping a dude named David after surgery. Shows another side of history from the Havens' time.
* Note to Louise Havens (Undated, c. 50s/60s?): Totally unique note from friend Della R. Maddox (Columbus, OH) to Louise Havens. Asks for help with a Robert Frost poem ("Stopping by Woods..."), connects local friends (the Lus) hoping to become O.M.S. missionaries in Taichung (ties into the other mission letter!), mentions WWII history figures, and thanks Professor George Havens for his help! Awesome local + mission history link.
* Righteous Photo: And dig this framed photo! Totally vintage portrait of a lady, maybe it's Louise? Got that classic look. Stands up on its own, real cool.
* Stamps & Cards Galore: Then there's, like, a whole buncha stamps and postcards floating around. Some are loose, some are stuck on envelope bits. Got that Oklahoma anniversary one ("Arrows to Atoms," whoa), some chill Whooping Cranes, that George W. Norris dude, and an old-school 2-cent Washington. Plus, like, a birthday postcard with flowers, a scenic one from Salt Lake City, and some plain ones. Postal waves, man.
* Other Cosmic Debris: You also get some envelopes (one looks like it's for "Clarence")... Whoa, almost missed these! Looks like some official YMCA insurance papers too. Guess they had the professor dude covered back in the day? Plus that funny little cartoon clipping, and just, like, other bits of paper from back then. The whole historical shebang.
The Lowdown:
This was all Professor Havens' stuff. WWI service, long-time OSU brainiac, all centered around Columbus. It's like holding history, for real.
Condition Report (Snuggie Style):
Okay, dudes, gotta level with ya. This stuff is old. Like, over 100 years for some of it. Paper gets tired, you know? Expect some, like, character marks – folds, maybe tiny tears, some fading. It's lived a life! Definitely zoom in on the pics, 'cause, like, I engineered these awesome photos, but touching dusty paper isn't really my jam. You get the picture, literally.
So yeah, you get the whole righteous pile exactly as you see it. Grab this wave of history before it rolls out! Peace out from Snuggie Bear at Bando Larry's.
