Original and scarce original WWII letter and censored cover, written in 1943 in Australia, after serving in the Guadalcanal battle, by an officer in the 1st Marine Division who was killed in action in January 1944 in the battle for Cape Gloucester, New Britain.
This officer had previously served in the 1942 Guadalcanal campaign. In this letter he discusses being hospitalized for malaria, which he had contracted on Guadalcanal.
