$18.61

Original WWII United States Navy Letters. U.S.S. Bunker Hill (CV-17). Written by a sailor named Richard J Phillips, who served as a Plane Captain in the Bunker Hill\'s Grumman TBF-1C Avenger torpedo bomber squadron, VT-8. Phillips survived the Japanese Kamikaze attack on the Bunker Hill in May 1945, which killed almost 400 of the Bunker Hill\'s crew.

One is 2 page letter, written on two different sheets of Bunker Hill stationery. The letter itself is undated, but the cover is postmarked early March 1945, at which time the Bunker Hill was serving as Flag Ship for Admiral Marc Mitscher, commanding Task Force 58. Shortly before this letter was written the Bunker Hill\'s aircraft had carried out strikes against Iwo Jima in support of the invasion of that island. Immediately afterward the Bunker Hill sailed with Task Force 58 to Japan, to carry out strikes against Tokyo and other cities.

The second letter was written several months after the Kamikaze attack on the Bunker Hill, in September 1945.
