I wish this one could talk, unfortunately no markings or known history behind this one so I can only guess. This is an early fixed bale helmet shell with a rayon Saint Claire liner. The shell has been camouflaged with two different colors of green paint, additionally the liner has a band of green paint around the rim. The liner appears to have been peppered with shrapnel or something, I normally don’t assume holes or damage are “battle damage” but I don’t know what else could have caused this. It has two large holes in the front and several other smaller holes in the back. The interior webbing has tons of tears and holes and one of the liner chinstrap hooks has been torn off. The webbing is stained and dirty, typical of liners that saw heavy use.
