$16.00

Original WWII letter, with censored cover, written by a corporal in the 1st Marine Division who fought at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and later as a platoon sergeant in Korea in the Chosin Reservoir in 1950 and in the battles of 1951.

This 5 page letter was written in March 1943. It was written in Australia, following the Guadalcanal battle.

*** This man was a prewar marine, enlisting in 1939. In December 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and the United States entered the war, he was in D Company, 7th Marines, in the same platoon as the famous Marine Corps hero Sergeant John Basilone, under legendary battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Lewis \"Chesty\" Puller. This corporal was then transferred to the 1st Marine Regiment in March 1942, and with the 1st Marines landed at Guadalcanal in August 1942.

This interesting letter was written by Corporal Ronald J. Hamel, Company M, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. (Note: Corporal Hamel\'s brother, Donald J. Hamel, also served in the 1st Marine Division, in the 7th Regiment, at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa.)
